New Three Dimensional Photography Technologies for Business, Defense, and Research

Recently, USU engineering professor Bob Pack spent a week overlooking San Diego Harbor from Point Loma shinning a lidar camera at passing ships and boats. The purpose was to train this camera to automatically recognize “objects of interest” for homeland security and Naval defense purposes. With the new 3D camera technology being developed at Utah State University, you can find objects that would be impossible to discover using conventional cameras. What you end up with is a computer model with details in centimeters. Dr. Pack will present this new technology and the variety of land-based, airborne and spaceborne applications it can be used for. He will also summarize many of the business opportunities that it will provide.
