- Each presentation are 8 minutes long followed by 2 minutes Q&A.
- Presentations are given in hour-long sessions beginning at the top of each hour.
- The final 20 minutes of each session is for judges to complete their scoring and feedback.
- A judge will hold up a card giving you a 4-minute and 2-minute warning to let you know it’s time to wrap up and move to Q&A.
Each session has a faculty judge and a speaking coach.
Speaking coaches provide feedback about your presentation strengths and weaknesses immediately after your presentation session. Their comments are not factored into judging, but serve to help you improve your presentation skills for the future.
Judges evaluate your presentation as a whole. Their feedback will be used to determine award winners. Judges compile their notes and finalize feedback during the last 20 minutes of each hour-long session. Judging feedback will be emailed to you about 24 hours after your presentation. - Oral presentations are held in Library rooms 101, 122, 154, 155, 204, 208 and 421.
- You will be assigned a presentation room after you select your presentation time in late February or early March.
- Each classroom is equipped with a PC computer, Microsoft PowerPoint, projector, projector screen and presentation remote with a built-in laser pointer.
- Please bring your presentation on a flash drive to help speed up the transition between sessions.
- Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides are recommended for the visual component of your presentation. Classroom computers are not equipped with Keynote or Prezi.
- Arrive 10-15 minutes before your session to avoid interrupting another presenter or missing your opportunity to be judged.
- Attend your entire session. Failure to do so may impact your chance to win an award. Being present is also courteous to other presenters in your session.
- Attend communication trainings to learn how to design slides and how to present your research orally to various audiences.
