Population Research at Utah State
Population Research at Utah State
Population study has a long pedigree at Utah State University. Demographic research in Utah has been well supported by the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station, which aims to understand many of the underlying trends affecting rural Utah and providing policy recommendations for dealing with them.
The USU Population Research Laboratory, the oldest of its kind in the region, was established in 1968 as a demographic training and research unit within the department of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology. The lab receives support from Dr. Yun Kim, founder of the PRL, and his wife Wendy, in the form of fellowships to support graduate students who specialize in demography. The PRL serves as a training program for graduate and PhD students from all over the world. Currently, students from Ecuador, China, Korea and Laos, as well as the U.S. are working at the lab.
