Our Mission

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee designated to review and approve research involving human participants before the start of such research, and to conduct periodic reviews of such research.

USU performs research designed to create knowledge and improve quality of life for citizens of Utah, the nation, and the world. We on the Institutional Review Board further the university’s research mission by:

  • Reviewing proposed research involving human participants
  • Protecting citizens against potential risks of research participation
  • Promoting high-quality studies that can provide rewards to participants and/or society
  • Educating the larger university community about ethical issues in human participants research
  • Overseeing compliance with federal, state, and university regulatory requirements for human participants research
