As of January 1, 2012, all new protocols and renewals must be submitted through Protis.
Renew or Amend an Application
Renewal is required after one year for those protocols that involve species covered by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and after three years on all other protocols. All aspects of the protocol need to be carefully reviewed for significant changes and updating. Particular attention needs to be given to numbers of animals needed over the next approval period and updating of the two literature searches. New signatures may be required by the attending veterinarian, the animal facility manager, the applicant, and their supervisor.
Protocols approved for one year may be renewed using the one year renewal form; however, the IACUC may request a new application and signature if there are a substantial number of changes to the original protocol.
Protocols approved for three years require a new application and new signatures for the protocol to be renewed.
Renewals for approved existing protocols need to be submitted 6 weeks prior to the expriation date in order for the IACUC to review the protocol before it expires.
Amendments are required when any significant change occurs in a protocol such as change of study objectives, funding, graduate student or other personnel, procedures and pain category, increasing animal number, change of species, use of anesthetic or analgesic agents, or methods of euthanasia. Submit all amendments by pulling up the Protocol Amendment Form and following the instructions. If an amendment involves any section where a signature is required, the amendment must be reviewed and signed by the same person who signed that section of the original application. Then submit the amendment form to the IACUC office.
