PhD Completion 2013–14
This plan is a part of one-time funds that were provided by the State Legislature to enhance PhD programs in STEM research fields.
STEM @ USU – At Utah State University, we define the STEM degrees as those encompassed in the colleges of Science, Natural Resources, Agriculture, Engineering, and Education. Though components of some degrees in some traditionally non-STEM colleges may focus on teaching STEM fundamentals, for this competition we have remained focused on a college level distinction as noted above.
USU has some excellent PhD students that, because of financial need, are so heavily committed to teaching (or have taken employment outside the university for family support) that they are unable to set aside the time needed to complete their degree. This program is offered to department head nominated PhD students that are willing to forgo other employment and complete their dissertation before the end of the academic year.
The RGS Office will offer up to 2 semesters of full support ($10K fellowship per semester & all tuition) to students whose time in their degree program is at or beyond normal expectations and are willing to commit to an assurance that they will complete their PhD by the end of the year.
