This seminar teaches new investigators how to write a grant application, a subject that is missing from the formal educational backgrounds of most junior faculty members. The program content is appropriate for those who have yet to write their first grant proposal, i.e., senior graduate students, postdoctoral research fellows, and non-tenure-track faculty members who aspire to tenure track. The seminar is a modification of the advanced seminar, Write Winning Grant Proposals. For example, more time is allowed for questions and discussion. Also, more basic material is included (e.g., how to develop a fundable idea, how to identify the appropriate funding agency(ies), the roles of program officers in the proposal-development process, how to write for reviewers, the purpose that each section of a grant proposal has, and the workings of the review process). Attendees will leave the program ready to write their first grant proposal, whether it is a fellowship application, a career development award or their first research-grant application.

NOTE: This seminar will be offered only in Fall semester for the 2016-17 academic year.
