A Message from the Environmental Health & Safety Office: Recently a number of individuals have been observed wearing inappropriate clothing while working in laboratories. Inappropriate clothing includes: shorts, skirts, and open toed shoes. Wearing the proper type of clothing is essential to properly protecting yourself and your laboratory personnel from the hazards that exist in the laboratory. State and Federal regulations as well as University policy require that individuals wear appropriate attire when working in the laboratory setting. Labcoats, proper gloves, and protective eye ware are the minimum protective equipment required when working with hazardous materials. Skirts, shorts, or open toed shoes are not allowed in laboratories or other areas where chemical, physical, biological, or radiation hazards exist. Please advise all individuals working in your laboratory of this issue. Thank you in advance for your efforts in providing a safe and healthy work environment.
