Research Integrity and Compliance

Responsible Conduct of Research Training

Available Training

USU has provided Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training to graduate and undergraduate students through various venues since 2004 when the first course in Research Integrity was offered. Currently, RCR training is offered which fulfills regulatory requirements of the Public Health Service and of the National Science Foundation (NSF). The America COMPETES Act requires that all students and postdoctoral employees funded by the NSF receive RCR training, and this requirement has now been integrated into the NSF Proposal Award Policies and Procedures (PAPP) Guide. One of the primary components of the guidance requires awardees to implement an institution-wide plan for delivering RCR instruction. USU must also be able to verify that all appropriate individuals have received the training.

The Research Scholars Certification Program (RSCP) has been adopted by USU as its response to the RCR training requirements outlined in the PAPP Guide. For a complete description of the RSCP, click here. The program includes online training, available through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI), available here, and three face-to-face sessions held throughout the year: The Research Scholars Orientation and the Research Scholars Forums, held in the fall and spring semesters.

Registration for the Research Scholars Orientation and Forums held each year are open to all USU students and personnel. The registration site indicates sessions that are currently open for registration.

The OCA also sponsors an annual New Faculty Mentoring Workshop, which provides an opportunity for individuals who are relatively new to teaching and mentoring duties to learn about and discuss effective mentoring strategies. This session is held in conjunction with the New Faculty Research Orientation, sponsored by the Office of Research and Graduate Studies.
